KUCHING: Sarawak Cham­ber of Com­merce and Industry (SCCI) is col­lab­or­at­ing with Aka­demi Bin­aan Malay­sia Wilayah Sarawak (ABM), the assess­ment and train­ing centre of CIDB Malay­sia, to offer CIDB com­pet­ency courses in build­ing inform­a­tion mod­el­ling (BIM).

BIM is one of the main agen­das in trans­form­ing the Malay­sian con­struc­tion industry to increase pro­ductiv­ity. In line with the Malay­sian gov­ern­ment’s Con­struc­tion Industry Trans­form­a­tion Pro­gramme (CITP), the Con­struc­tion Industry Devel­op­ment Board (CIDB) has developed BIM train­ing mod­ules in col­lab­or­a­tion with vari­ous industry play­ers in an effort to enhance the use of BIM in coun­try’s con­struc­tion sec­tor.

The BIM courses are designed to train industry play­ers such as archi­tects, engin­eers, sur­vey­ors, con­tract­ors, build­ers and oth­ers to be BIM com­pet­ent.

This course revolu­tion­ises the way build­ings and infra­struc­ture are designed, con­struc­ted, and man­aged by integ­rat­ing inform­a­tion, tech­no­logy, and col­lab­or­a­tion throughout the project life­cycle. It offers numer­ous bene­fits includ­ing improved com­mu­nic­a­tion, reduced errors and rework, bet­ter decision-mak­ing, and enhanced project out­comes.

Over the past few years, BIM courses have gained sig­ni­fic­ant trac­tion in the con­struc­tion industry. Aka­demi Bin­aan Malay­sia Wilayah Sarawak has star­ted the BIM train­ing courses since 2020.

From stat­ist­ics, in the year of 2020, Aka­demi Bin­aan Malay­sia Wilayah Sarawak has con­duc­ted the BIM train­ing courses to 13 num­ber of par­ti­cipants.

However, in 2021, the num­ber of par­ti­cipants was increased to 165, while in 2022, the num­ber of par­ti­cipants is 133. As of Octo­ber 2023, the num­ber of par­ti­cipants has increased sig­ni­fic­antly by 330 par­ti­cipants.

The BIM courses organ­ised are as fol­lows; BIM Concept & The­ory, BIM Mod­el­ling of Archi­tec­ture, BIM Mod­el­ling of Struc­ture, BIM Mod­el­ling of Elec­trical, BIM Mod­el­ling of Infra­struc­ture, BIM Mod­el­ling of Mech­an­ical and Plumb­ing, BIM Coordin­ator Part 1: Setup, BIM Coordin­ator Part 2: Coordin­a­tion, BIM Coordin­ator Facil­it­ies Man­age­ment, BIM Man­ager Part 1, BIM Man­ager Part 2, BIM for Con­tractor.
